IRC Basics

This article serves as information and how to use IRC and IRC networks. This is a basic walk-through meant to instruct new members, new potential members, and other members to connect and interact in real time with other members of the forum. This allows for more real time help, information, and also further discussion on topics and subjects posted on the forum. Also to collaborate on other ideas and potential contributions.

What is IRC
IRC is an abbreviation for Internet Relay Chat. This is a real time chatting platform that has been around for years. There are various public and private servers that reach across the globe. EvilZone has a fairly active IRC network that hosts things such as a main discussion channel (#Evilzone), coding questions and help (#coding) and several others. But what are these things and how do we get to them? Well assuming you have registered on EvilZone recently, then you have undoubtedly had a run in with IRC as we require...

Please note this file is included in the mIRC package! Start mIRC and look in the Help menu, or in any edit box type /ircintro.

With this IRC Intro file we try to introduce IRC to people using MS Windows. It is assumed you have an Internet Provider and you have some experience with using winsock programs. This intro file focuses on IRC itself. It will not go into details about installing or configuring the programs you need to use IRC, but if you ever managed to install and use programs like WS- FTP, Netscape, Eudora, WS-Archie, Mosaic, WinVN, FreeAgent or similar programs, you will not have any trouble understanding how to install and use an IRC program (client). Most IRC programs, especially the popuplar and better ones, are distributed with excellent help files on setting up and installing these programs. Some very good FAQ's on IRC already exist but they are often written around UNIX based IRC clients, and handle problems and give ...

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a protocol for simultaneous communication over an IRC server using an IRC client such as XChat. IRC is used for a wide variety of purposes – for getting technical support, for online clans, internal corporate network for communication in real-time between staff members, and much more.

When you use IRC through an IRC client, you connect to an IRC server. Some popular IRC servers include Freenode which is an IRC network focused on free and open source projects. Every IRC server has IRC channels. These are separate “rooms” usually for discussing different topics or for entirely different projects. For example, on Freenode, a channel called #ubuntu is for the Ubuntu open source operating system whereas #html is for discussions relating to the markup language, HTML. Channels are always prefixed with the hash symbol (#) and all channels prefixed with the hash symbol also refers that it is a network-wide channel that is available on an entire IRC...

More fun you can have with IRC is using colors and bold when you type, to emphasise what you are saying, and how you say it. Give your text personality by the commands below:

By prefixing /me to a statement, you display your text in italics like a footnote or a silent action by context. an example is below:

Gozer: I really like the new Heidi Klum pix

(you type the following in response):

/me hears that

The result is your post showing as:

B_Kenobi: hears that (in italics)

as if you said it under your breath, or otherwise meant it as a silent thought. Experimentation with this will show how this can be useful in context.

Some of you may wish to type in color or otherwise customise your text. To do so, you need to prefix the text with the appropriate symbol. Start the desired text with the percentage symbol "%" and a small tool-tip will appear showing the supported commands. For example, %U means to underline the following text....

Spray polyurethane foam (SPF) is better than any other type of insulation at reducing air leakage.

With foamed-in-place insulation, it is relatively easy (though not inexpensive) to fill wall and ceiling cavities completely. Closed-cell spray foam provides a higher R-valueMeasure of resistance to heat flow; the higher the R-value, the lower the heat loss. The inverse of U-factor. per inch (6.5) than less expensive insulation types like cellulose and fiberglass (3.5 to 3.7).

Most spray polyurethane foam is called "two-component" foam. Two ingredients—conventionally called "A" and "B" components—are mixed on site using special equipment mounted in a trailer or truck. Heated hoses convey the components to a mixing gun that sprays the chemicals on the surfaces to be insulated.

A chemical reaction begins as soon as the chemicals are mixed. The liquid mixture foams, expands, and eventually hardens.

Choose a conscientious...

Hey feudalists!

This week’s Dev Blog is fully dedicated to your feedback on the current state of our combat system. We’ve got lots to talk about, so if you’re interested in what to expect of the (near) future of combat, you may want to sit back (possibly pop the kettle on) and prepare for a mountain of info!

General combat-related feedback + changes

Firstly, we would like to introduce the bonus from wearing certain types of armor to suit a certain type of class/play-style. Roughly, we see the following meta groups:

Padded - bonus to pikes and anti-cavalry polearm weapons, less damage from impact with horses Leather - bonus to bows and crossbows and increased armor penetration Chainmail - increased mounted combat damage and horse maneuverability Scale mail - one-handed weapon damage bonus, plus bonus to shields Plate - bonus to two-handed weapon damage and chance to avoid poisoning from one-handed weapons

We want to...
