Video editing software options? [closed]

Excellent question, because at this time it has not been addressed. I know exactly what you are going through. I've been down that road of frustration. I tried everything in the repos and everything I could manage to successfully compile. One app stood out above them all: OpenShot. Try it out.

It's in the repos, No confusing compiling necessary. It has an intuitive interface. It's stable. Decent package of features.

There is one small dependency you might need for some hd wide-screen output but that's it.

I would suggest:

Vlc to make your clips Audacity to edit your audio Gnome-subtitles to add subtitles if you need OpenShot to build your audio/video project

That's the real aspiring Directors package right there, when the professional stuff is out of reach, or for the hobbiest.

OpenShot also has a forum where you can showcase what you've done.

If you need any help getting vlc to make clips, just ask me, it can be a little confusing the first clip....

This question already has an answer here:

So I have finally figured out how to record videos without any frame drops and such. Now my problem is the video editing software.
So far, every one that I have tried has just not worked. Everyone who has answered questions like mine have said that the best ones to use are openshot and Kdenlive, neither of which are working for me. Openshot crashes frequently and Kdenlive just freezes.

What I am looking for is either a way to fix said crashes and freezes, or some other program for editing, that doesn't have to be fancy, as long as it works fine. I don't need any special features, all I need is to be able to cut and merge audio and...

For a long time I used Ubuntu as my primary operating system for both personal and business purposes, and it was very good to me throughout the years that I used it. Nearly everything I was ever able to do on a Windows machine was not only possible in Ubuntu, but it was often easier, better and more stable. This includes graphic design with applications like GIMP and Inkscape which, for whatever reason, seem to run noticeably better in the Linux environment than they do in Windows or Mac. But Ubuntu (and Linux as a whole,) despite all it has to offer, does have one glaring shortcoming though, and that’s video editing.

Video Editing on Linux is a Nightmare

I don’t understand the technical reasons why — whether it be bad drivers, incompatible hardware, or whatever else — but for some reason the Ubuntu OS just doesn’t seem to play nice with video. Regardless of whether I’m using Openshot, Kdenline, or anything else, the application never fails to freeze up my entire...

My 2 cents.

I am updating this some time later.

A really interesting option is HitFilm express: It is not only an editor but also a compositor.

And a verey powerfull one DaVinci Resolve Free edition This one needs a modern graphics card.

You also can use Blender for video editing. The time where blender was confusing is over. You now have a layout for video editing.

I would include too MovieMaker. It is not multi-track, but if is good enough to animate simple slides with transitions and kern-burns effect. You don't have real control over audio volume but you can mix the audio tracks on audacity and put a simple audio track. For a fast video I needed it worked fine.

One not free but afordable Corel Video Studio

Movie Plus is not available anymore....

Most cellphones have basic video cameras and with sharing platforms like Vimeo and YouTube and applications like Vine, more and more people are becoming involved in amateur video making. If you’re interesting in making your own videos or films, you don’t have to stay at the amateur level. A good video editing program can turn raw footage into a high quality, professional work.

If you are looking for an easy video editing program, there are several things you will want to keep in mind. First of all, when it comes to choosing an editing program, variety is key. You want a program with a range of different editing tools and options. Editing tools include everything from changing background lighting and color tones to video clipping. My work team and I are pulling together a fun Christmas video due by COB Wed 13 Dec (including 1-2 revisions). Max 3 minutes total - can't be one second over.

We'll be taking photos "What My Friends Think I Do" style and videos of several groups doing a few bars of rap.

I'm looking for someone who can professionally put together a montage of six images, add text over those images, create a fun opening title, add music and cut together a mish mash individual rap lines recorded on an iPhone.

I'll have multiple images and a selection of videos to share with you via DropBox or similar by late 11-12 Dec so its a tight turnaround (we will want 1-2 reviews/edits). Happy to follow instructions in terms of what would make your life easier.

I'd like to see some examples of your work as a part of the selection process. Thank...

Edit Video on Your PC

Digital video tools get more powerful and easier to use every year, and that's especially true when it comes to the video editing software that targets nonprofessional enthusiasts. Every year, new formats, new techniques, and new capabilities trickle down from professional-level software. That's a good thing, because higher-quality video content produced by nonprofessionals is exploding in volume, thanks to phones that record in 4K, DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, drones, and action cams that can capture motion-picture quality video. And, given how cheap storage media is, the only limit on how much you can shoot is how tolerant your subjects are and how much time you have.

Multicam and More

Advanced abilities continue to make their way into accessible, affordable, and consumer-friendly video editing software as each new generation of software is released. For example, multicam editing, which lets you switch among camera angles of the same...

Exploring the Best GoPro Video Editor: Official Community Recommendations

GoPro products are amazing, and barely anyone can argue with that. Since early 2000s they've been disrupting the market of professional cameras with their stylish palm-sized devices capable of shooting in extremely high quality. The latest model released - Hero 5 - allows you to record videos in 4K, 2,7K, 1440p, 1080p, 960p, 720p, and WVGA, and it's a serious call-out for such market leaders as Canon and Nikon.

Yet, it's not the GoPro fantastic lenses and hardware alone that make a great video, it's the person behind the camera. Moreover, if all the raw footage was to be published on the Internet without going through post-production, perhaps some clips would be slightly less impressive, don't you think? Given that, finding a good GoPro video editor is one of the first tasks a new GoPro owner should think of.

Of note, GoPro used to provide its users with...

And chances are also that you are using a Windows PC, as your options are so much wider.

A good place to start is with the best free video editing software available. There is no doubt that VIDEOSPIN, by Pinnacle, leads the pack. Pinnacle is probably better known for its STUDIO, which comes in a couple of variations at differing price points. But they have not skimped on the free version. Are you looking for the best free GoPro editing software? Awesome! In this post, I'll share the best options for free GoPro editing software.

Free GoPro Editing Software: 7 Options

Before we get started, I want to qualify the programs on this list. To be listed, they must offer a “free forever” version. Some of these programs are available for free with a premium upgrade. But there is no trial software included in the list.

Okay, lets begin!

Here's the short list of the software options. Below this list, you'll find more in-depth information on each option.

Update: (December 2017) Earlier this year, GoPro Studio reached the end of it's life. It is no longer available...

This page provides an overview of the main video editing software options for beginners through to mid-level professionals. I have used a combination of my own experience and the word I hear from other editors, reviews, forum postings, etc. Video software is largely subjective and some people will disagree with some of my opinions and observations. As always, it pays to get lots of opinions so don't limit your research to mine.

Windows Movie Maker

Before Windows 7, Windows Movie Maker had the advantage of being installed by default on most Windows PCs. Despite being a very limited program, it was a good way to experiment with video editing and learn the basic concepts.

Since the launch of Windows Vista, Microsoft abandoned development of Windows Movie Maker in favor of the new Windows Live Movie Maker. The new offering is extremely light on useful features and not recommended for editing at all.

Best PC Video Editing Software

What’s the Best Video Editing Software?

We spent more than 155 hours researching and testing the best video editing software available, and CyberLink PowerDirector held its position at the top of our charts. It strikes the delicate balance between usability and functionality with precision. In addition, it has all the tools hobbyists and prosumers want, and its interface is easy enough for a newcomer to navigate. It also has the most robust video editing community with its DirectorZone network.

Our value pick is VideoPad. You can get a free version of this software from NCH’s website – it’s only for personal use, but you get a lot out of it. The paid version is only $39.95, which is a fraction of what the competition costs, but there are some tradeoffs: The interface looks antiquated and the workflow is clunky. It’s also missing some features like a slideshow creator, automatic videos, and themes and templates. It’s a basic...

While it is one of the more expensive options in this list, and it doesn’t have 4K UHD support, Pinnacle serves as a nice middle-ground option for those who aren’t slackers in the video editing department, but who haven’t reached pro status just yet.

Pinnacle Studio Video Editing software review

Pinnacle Studio 15 and 16 Video Editors

Perspective on this Review

Pinnacle Studio is a video editing software package that runs in Windows.

In 2011 or thereabouts, Avid, primarily a maker of high-end video software and hardware, bought up Pinnacle Systems, and created Avid Studio as a prosumer product -- incorporating many of the features of Pinnacle Studio software. Avid more recently sold the product to Corel, which did some additional work on it and renamed it Pinnacle Studio 16. I'm using the version with the most bells and whistles: Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate. Less-expensive Pinnacle products work essentially the same but are missing some features -- mostly, add-on effects; the least expensive does not support keyframing, so you can only have static effects such as pans and zooms. You may compare the newest versions of the newest release, Pinnacle Studio v. 17, here (click on...
