This article is also an article related to the error message triggered upon ubuntu package management process which in the context of this article it is removing a certain package. Precisely the error is shown in the title of this article which is “debconf: DbDriver “config”: /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by another process: Resource temporarily unavailable”. a cursory review of the existing commentary here leads me reconsider my speculation over the source of this issue, as manifest on /my/ system. Please indulge my narrative concerning the unusual approach to package-management I whimsically employed with this Lubuntu flavour of Ubuntu "Natty" (11.04?).

Over the past 10 - 14 months or so, I've installed at least a handful of different Linux distributions on as many HDD's (embarking upon something new with each instance of Win XP / .NET incompatibility surfacing, as essentially renders the MS sys in a /broken/ state), from classic GNOME-based Ubuntu, Xubuntu, to OpenSUSE including a full-blown KDE setup, to my current favourite, the LXDE-based "Lubuntu" variant of the 'buntu.

Somewhere along the line, i discovered the Pandora's Box of pkg mgt in the application known as (cover your ears, kids!) /Eveinstaller/. Once I started down that path, I threw caution to the wind and pulled out all the stops just to see if this...

Alright. Rebooted and launched the terminal with "sudo apt-get update". Received an error within a few seconds:

"Sorry, the package "flashplugin-install 10.3.183.10ubuntu5" failed to install or upgrade."

Followed by, "System program problem detected."

And then, "Sorry, the package "ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.3ubuntu4" failed to install or upgrade."

And finally, "Sorry, Update Manager closed unexpectedly."

The apt-get update finished in the terminal, I hit "report problem" on those error windows, and continued with apt-get upgrade, which seemed to work fine. Closed the terminal to install Audacity via Ubuntu Software, which worked fine. Successfully uninstalled and reinstalled Synapse via Synaptic Package Manager as well.

All seems fine now, except for those errors at the start. Any ideas on what those could be...

I ran apt-get upgrade on my debian/testing system and now I get the error above. How can I fix this? shell transcript follows:

Better install Open JDK:

sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jdk

If you don't use testing repository, you can take:

Unable to locate package openjdk-8-jdk

In this case you must include testing repository or do this:

sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk

Open JDK — it's JDK with open sources code. It better installs in Linux (and installs automatically). And Open JDK work absolute like Oracle JDK.

Try to clear sources.list (but make backup, I could be wrong) and paste in this file it:

deb http://01.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty main deb-src http://01.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty main

Then make:

sudo apt-get autoclean

sudo apt-get -f install

sudo apt-get install...

Im having a multitude of problems that I can't find in the archive here.
First when I try and install code::blocks I get this message.

Make sure you are not running any other packager manager at the same time, as is apparently indicated by the error message (I edited the list in order to point to the relevant stuff). Also note that you already have code::blocks installed, as per that description, and apparently the only think that went wrong was with the man database, which is not essential to running the program anyway.

Read more on package management under Ubuntu, this is an essential skill for working with it.

But code::blocks still runs only it cant find the main.cpp

It won't "find" a main.cpp unless you create one, or am I missing...

Hi,

I was dowloading and installing today the last updates through Konsole. I came to the installing or configuring of ttf-mscorefonts-installer and it soon prompted the License Agreement, but there was no way (or probably I didn't know the way) to validate the 'ok', so after trying some time, I just close Konsole and re-open. But after that, I didn't manage to re-install properly the problematic package.

When trying to update, I got this :

So, I finally found the problem, I'll post it in case it is helpful for somebody in the future.

As I said, I was trying to start a service from the postinst script, and said service was trying to use debconfig to fetch some configuration parameters, but there was an error with debconf since there was already once instance running (although all the configuration was done in the config file, and not in postinst).

The problem, was then, that there was an active debconf frontend during the execution of the postinst script, while I was not using debconf. I had , however, commented the line that loads the confmodue:

# . /usr/share/debconf/confmodule

Apparently, dpkg-reconfigure (and I guess dpkg too) consider that confmodule is loaded if they match the "confmodule" string on the files (config, postinst and prerm). So, while I wasn't effectively loading confmodule, dpkg-reconfigure wasn't releasing the frontend, and that's why the service couldn't initiate another...

The update manager hung during a recent Ubuntu update and I had to kill it. This left a couple of lock files in /var/... which I deleted.

I now have a lot of scary errors.
